My project on Voluntourism, where I visited both Malawi and Tanzania to explore this fairly new phenomena, has now been published on ten pages plus the cover in swedish magazine Re:Public as well on two pages in swedish daily tabloid Expressen. I am also very happy to have been awarded the grant MalmöStipendiet at the Swedish Picture Of The Year Awards.
This is what they wrote in the announcement: We are very happy to welcome a new member to our team of great photographers! Vilhelm Stokstad is a freelance photographer based in Stockholm and chairman of the local division of the Swedish Press Photographers Association. You can read more about him and see a selection of his work on his Kontinent page (see link below). Warm welcome Vilhelm!
On 11th of May we will open the group exhibition “VÄLFÄRDSSAMHÄLLET” (commonwealth society) at Galleri Kontrast in Stockholm. My new work on voluntourism will be shown together with 15 other projects exploring todays commonwealth society. The exhibition is open May 11 – June 9.
On Saturday I will begin my final project at Nordens Fotoskola. I will investigate the subject of Voluntourism – volunteers on arranged trips – and how this phenomenon can have a possible negative effect in terms of post colonialism and “we and them”-thinking.
